FAQs

What is your product made out of?

22 gauge, G-90 Galvanized Steel, Dura Coat Thermally catalyzed polyester paint system.

How long does the process take?

The turn-around time between order and installation is approximately 2-4 weeks. The on-site time is usually 1-4 days depending on complexity.

Can anything be added to the ceiling?

Yes, we can install recessed lighting, ceiling fans, swings, speakers and more.

Can I paint the ceiling a different color?

No! This will cause a reaction with the manufactured paint and cause it to begin to flake off. Painting your system will void your warranty.

Does the system come with a warranty?

Yes, it comes with a limited lifetime warranty.

Palmetto Underdecks will warranty your patented Clearspan Underdeck System against leaks, corrosion, and paint failure for as long as you own your home. This warranty does not cover damage due to homeowner negligence, acts of God or any other Natural Disaster. Any leaks outside the System are not the responsibility of Palmetto Underdecks. Such leaks include, but are not limited to, improper deck flashing, System clogging due to excessive debris, and seepage through stone, brick, or other porus/uneven surfaces. Soffit coverings that are not contained within a gutter system are considered "outside the System" and are not covered under the warranty. Additionally, any alterations or modifications to the System by the homeowner without the consent from Palmetto Underdecks may void the warranty.

Transfer of Limited Lifetime Warranty

Palmetto Underdecks may extend the Limited Lifetime Warranty to a new homeowner upon inspection of the System by a licensed installer.

What about accessibility? Can the clearspan System ceiling be removed?

Ceiling can be disassembled and removed if required. This is an important feature so that decks can be repaired or changed structurally and reinstalled without any loss of material. We have seen other products that have to be removed and scrapped because they cannot be reinstalled. *Note: Other systems install on the joists of the deck with screws or nails, which renders them worthless if they have to be removed.

Can I install the ceiling myself?

No – the underdeck includes a limited lifetime warranty, and therefore must have our certified installers perform the installation. The value of the product is really in the product itself. Our installers complete a rigorous training procedure and are certified prior to being allowed to install our Clearspan System. We do not use Sub-contractors.

Can I enclose my space to make it even more livable?

Yes! The area under the deck can be enclosed to provide additional uses for the space such as screened in porches or fully framed enclosures.

How do I maintain my Underdeck ceiling?

The Inside of the System
Rain will usually keep debris washed out of the ceiling. It’s still a good idea to periodically check the inside of your system’s ceiling panels.

The Outside of the System
The exposed metal ceiling surface rarely needs to be cleaned, but if it becomes dirty, spray with a water hose or a low pressure, pressure washer to dampen and remove the debris. If additional cleaning is required, use dish washing detergent and a sponge mop to remove any spots. Rinse after done and dry with towels or blow dry with a leaf blower.

What can I clean my deck/house with that is safe for my Underdeck ceiling?

First and most importantly, you should never use chlorinated bleach. Chlorinated bleach is harmful to plants, not good for metals (painted and unpainted), and unsafe for the environment. Not to mention that continued use of chlorinated bleach can cause damage to fasteners, some of which attach your deck to your home. I know that it is easy to pour a little bleach in a bucket, dilute with water and proceed to bleach away, but the long term effects are not worth it.

For Natural Wood Decks
Sodium percarbonate is good choice for excellent cleaning properties, safe for plants, humans and the environment. Oxyclean is this type of product but the sodium percarbonate content is not great enough in some instances to properly clean a wooden deck. Sodium percarbonate deck cleaners are available online, or at a commercial paint supplier. Usually the big box home store such as Home Depot or Lowes do not carry this product. They typically stock deck cleaners that have Chlorinated Bleach as one of the ingredients, so be sure to always read the package ingredients.

For Synthetic Decks
We recommend Corte Clean. This product is safe for fasteners, the environment, and does a good job of cleaning decks. It has also been tested on the metals used in our system and has been proven safe.

Pressure Washing
If you use a pressure washer in conjunction with any of the above, use low pressure so that you do not raise the grain and damage your deck.
